I finished this book today. It was really good and not like what I usually read. It's about a guy who has to go to prison for a year for kiting checks, which means he moved money around different accounts that wasn't really there by playing games with when the bank posted deposits and withdrawals. He wasn't sent to a standard prison. He was sent to Carville, Louisiana. The colony was half prison and half home to the last known people in the US disfigured by leprosy. It documents his time there and the relationships he formed with people outcast from society as well as other prisoners. I highly recommend it. Interesting fact: did you know the only other known creature to naturally contract leprosy is an armadillo?
I made this earring holder this week.
A friend made one for his wife for Christmas and I had seen several on Pinterest. Most of them recommend using chicken wire and I just wasn't sure where to get that so I hadn't taken any initiative in making my own despite the fact my earrings were taking over my jewelry box. Then, I saw my sister's and noticed she used something that wasn't chicken wire. Lucky for me she had a piece of the sewing plastic left over that was the perfect fit for an 8x10 frame. I went to Goodwill and bought an ugly, damaged purple frame for $2, came home, painted it, and glued the plastic to it. It's working great! I need to figure out how to add a few hooks for some of my earrings that have different types of backs that won't stick straight into the openings. I'm going to try pipe cleaners first. The holes are a little bigger than they need to be. If I'm not careful, other earrings will fall off, but other than that, it's working great!
