Well, after a busy week of painting and moving last week, we hit the ground running this week.
On our team, we started EOG review with a modified schedule. Between my review session, planning a math activity for those not in my session, and my regular lesson, I had three preps this week. In my session I did stations everyday that were student led so there was a lot of folder making and switching materials each day as well as making numerous keys so the lead students could check others' work. My classroom also got rearranged an average of 2 times a day this week. Craziness!
Monday afternoon we had a faculty meeting.
Tuesday and Wednesday we had a team from the Department of Public Instruction in the school from the time the doors opened until they closed assessing us. They observed classrooms, interviewed teachers and students, and looked through anything and everything they wanted to in classrooms. It caused just a bit of heightened stress.
Tuesday I worked the gate for the spring sports after school.
Wednesday I had math club after school that I forgot to make the awards for so I had to spend class time prepping those for the afternoon.
Thursday I had a fight in my classroom between two girls.
Thursday I rode to Greensboro with Laura to try on bridesmaids dresses.
Friday we didn't actually start teaching until 11am because of EOG review, a team meeting with our assistant principal, and spring pictures.
THEN, we let the students have buddy lunch where they get to sit wherever they want AND we gave them ice cream as a reward for a fundraiser they did...don't worry it was healthy ice cream!
Whew! What a way to come back from spring break!
We are finishing up our geometry unit on 3D figures this coming week. We learned formulas for volume and surface area this past week. I told my students that they had to memorize these formulas to be able to do well on the test this coming Friday. I told them whatever it takes, whether that's making flash cards or writing the formulas on their mirror so they see them each morning, they've got to memorize them. One girl responded, "I can't be writing them on my mirror. That's where I take pictures and I can't have math in my pictures. People be thinking I'm a nerd!"
