Thursday Thoughts: Swamped

Ever have one of those weeks where you feel like you can't catch your breath?

That's been me this week.

It hasn't been a bad week...just an unexpected busy week.

My to do list hasn't been overwhelming, but has been swamped with a lot of tedious things to get done.

Usually at this point in the week I'm looking forward to next week, getting plans ready, making copies, etc. Today I was still making copies for this week and have no clue what's going on next week.

I haven't left school before 4 this week and most days it's been 4:30. (That's the equivalent of leaving between 6 and 6:30 and having to each lunch at your desk for all of the 8-5 people who read...which I'm sure many of you can relate with)

I don't mind it though...sometimes it's nice to be busy. I like checking tedious tasks off of my to do list. I think I should have been some type of administrative assistant...I enjoy a hard day's work and enjoy doing a bunch of little things, especially for others. Maybe someday...

It has worn me out though. Yesterday morning I snoozed my alarm clock for an hour in my sleep. My snooze cycle is usually 15 mins, 10 mins, 5 mins and I always hear my alarm on the first beat of music. Apparently my subconscious wanted more sleep because I didn't wake up until 6am and I vaguely remembered holding the snooze button until it said 60 minutes. The extra sleep was nice...the no shower was not so nice. :)

It was a full moon last night. I thought I had blogged before about the craziness that happens when there is a full moon, but I couldn't find it in any of my posts. Occasionally, we'll have a really off week at school for no apparent reason. The only common denominator we've come up with is a full moon.

On Monday, my students were so chatty...even my 3rd period, which is usually silent. It's only gotten worse as the week has gone on. I thought maybe they had had too much turkey this past weekend and then I got a quick glimpse of the moon yesterday morning. It was huge and full! Looking at the calendar last night was the actual full moon so maybe after today, they'll settle back down again.

I would have never believed you if you had told me this myth, but I really am starting to believe that a full moon makes middle schoolers more wacky than they already are. I mean we've had two intense fights this week between girls. Fights are not unusual but girl fights are rare and we've had two this week that have been knock down drag outs. Crazy I tell ya!

I'm getting dinner with some old friends tonight and am so excited to get to catch up with them!

Maybe this weekend Stephen and I will get around to decorating the tree we bought last weekend. It might not look great yet, but it smells great!

I had a student write "     (his name)     was here" on all of my desks last week when we were doing stations. So, he had to stay after school and clean all of my desks. When I was talking to him about it, he said, "Yea, putting my name on all of the desks probably wasn't the smartest decision."

ha! ya think?!?

Happy Thursday!
