MorgantonFest

Every year Morganton hosts MorgantonFest, a festival in downtown Morganton. I explained it to my family as a teeny tiny state fair. There were a few rides, lots of yummy fried food, and plenty of vendors set up selling stuff to fill your afternoon. They also host a concert Friday and Saturday night. And the best part...the whole thing is free! Well, admission is. :)

Our church is located right downtown. We were a block behind the main stage. For the past several years they have used the parking lot as a fundraiser for the student ministry. Being the student pastor, Stephen got to organize that task this year. Sadly, he had to stay at the church the whole time with the exception of the concert Saturday night once they filled up and closed up shop. He had a blast hanging out with students and families though and they made the most money they've ever made!

I worked the parking lot Friday night, but was lucky enough to get to go explore the festival on Saturday. Thankfully Kel was in town visiting so I didn't have to explore alone.

Rows of food...not quite as many options as the state fair, but enough to satisfy the annual fried food overload craving.

Saturday night Parmalee played. They were great. As you can tell, Mr. Grandpa here thought it was too loud. He and his group didn't even make it to Parmalee's opening song before they left. They sure were cute though!
Morganton, for such a small town, did a great job with this festival! Stephen and I were so impressed. I was bummed about being too far away to go to the state fair this year, but MorgantonFest will fill in for a great substitute.
