Stained Glass Functions

When we study linear functions, we try to incorporate a project. I usually do a slope project where students create a picture with various lines and a variety of slopes. It's great practice with graphing linear functions and identifying slope.

This year, a friend of mine told me about a different project she had learned about. Students are given 24 different linear functions and a blank graph paper. They choose 12 of these and graph them. Then, color their picture like a stained glass window.

This was a lot harder for my students than I anticipated. This is an 8th grade standard that we only cover with our plus students and it's tough for them. We also don't have a lot of time to spend on it. But, once they got the hang of it, they did a great job and I thought they turned out great!
