This year we decided to plan Santa's Workshop. With the help of our school social worker, we identified 7 families that have students at Carrington who needed additional support this Christmas.
The social worker met with these families and compiled wish lists for them. We had students, teachers, and community members donate to the cause. We took any monetary donations and shopped for items on the wish lists that we had not received yet. I got to go shopping for four girls and pick out clothes for them with some of the money donated. Other administrators from Carrington went shopping as well with other monetary donations.
On Friday, the last school day before Christmas, we set everything up in the media center. Parents got to come in after all students were gone for the day and shop for their family.
We had Christmas music playing, Christmas candy for parents to snack on, and several parents there volunteering as personal shopping assistants.
Overall the parents were very appreciative!
Once they were done shopping, we had other volunteers there wrapping the gifts for them. So, when they left, they were all ready for Christmas morning!
It was a lot of fun to be able to participate in something like this that intentionally serves those in need under our own roof.
Here's a clip that DPS put together highlighting Santa's Workshop.
