We tie-dyed team t-shirts last week before our first field trip.
I had never tie-dyed a shirt before so I was super excited. We watched an instructional video on how to tie and dye the shirts. Then one afternoon we took the whole team outside and dyed our shirts.
I was scared we were going to run out of dye so I
selflessly let the kids dye first made sure I got first dibs on the dye!
The kids did a great job and I thought their shirts turned out great!
On the way home that afternoon I thought about the events from the afternoon. We took the whole team outside (around 100 kids) and gave them free reign with permanent fabric dye with no shield for the clothes we had on. Since I was
watching them so closely focused on getting a good design myself, I paid zero attention to my students until mine was done. How we didn't have dye covering everyone I'll never know. They behaved so well! There's no way I would have done that (the whole team at one time, pretty much unsupervised) with my kids in Durham. It would have had to been MUCH more structured! Nevertheless, we all survived with only a few minor mishaps and got great results!
My finished product
