Well, we made it to the fair! I was certain we would miss it this year, but alas we did not.
Last Friday was my 10 year high school reunion and we had a wedding in Durham on Saturday. So, we were already planning on being in town.
When my high school was lame and didn't plan anything other than going to the football game (where I'm pretty sure only 3 people from my graduating class showed up) and I saw a message on Facebook that The Summit (RDU not Morganton) choir was performing Friday night at the fair, I asked Stephen if he wanted to skip my reunion and go to the fair instead.
Yes!
Our first stop was for Kettle Corn. Rachael used to eat kettle corn all the time in college and I never liked it. When Kel was in town the other weekend, she got some at Morganton Fest. I tried it and LOVED it! We snacked on this bag all night!
You can't go to the fair and not check out the massive produce!
I was so excited to see one of the watermelon winners was from Ronda!
We're going to have to get Pa to enter next year!
I always love stopping by the WRAL booth. I watched WRAL every morning growing up because it was always what mom had on in the morning when I crawled out of bed to eat breakfast. I feel like they're celebrities. So, we stopped and watched them do a live segment on the news. I think it's so cool to watch live TV in person! I think I was the only one interested in this from my group and was definitely the only one who was excited about seeing the news in person.
It was the first Friday of the fair and the weather was AMAZING!! However, that meant there was a HUGE crowd! I am not a big fan of crowds. Usually when I go, the crowds are mainly in the ride area and we spend most of our time looking at everything else. Well, there was a crowd everywhere. We even had to stand in line to look at the pumpkins and cows. By the end of the night, I was done with it, but was so grateful for great weather!
The choir concert was great and a nice break in our evening from the crowd and walking around.
We ate a lot of fried food!
Fried snickers, fried oreos, and fried smores.
I'm not usually a huge fan of the fried goodies, but when I saw they had a deep fried smores this year, I went on a mission to find it. We walked in circles for at least 30 minutes looking for it. With no luck, we turned to the smart phone. It led us straight to the booth. It wasn't as amazing as I expected, but still good. I was hoping they would put the smore together and fry that. But, they put graham cracker crumbs in the fry batter, fried marshmallows in that, and squirted the chocolate on top. It was still good, but I wanted a hershey bar melted inside that fried goodness like the fried snickers.
The best part? We got to hang out with these friends and introduce them to the state fair for the first time!
Dear Fall, I'm really loving you!
