Kinsley Faith: Five Years Old

Kinsley Faith! You are 5! We still call you Little Bit, but you are a big kid now and I'm just not sure how that happened so fast! A few highlights of you from the past year so I'll never forget!

You are a great sleeper and are the one most likely to sleep in. If you fall asleep during nap time at school, you are up early (by 6am) the next morning. You are our lightest sleeper. If the power goes out, you are awake immediately and usually terrified.
After 3 rounds of the stomach bug came through our house last winter, you and Chloe were taking turns sleeping downstairs in the guest room. I was shocked that you stayed down there by yourself the first night. You slept down there for most of the year. Over Christmas break, I finally took the time to clean it out and make it more of a little girls room. The day after I did that, you decided you wanted to sleep upstairs again and now you refuse to sleep downstairs.
You still can't resist a car nap if we go somewhere late in the afternoon.

Your eating habits are still not great. You still love to snack and eat junk.
I introduced the snack tray to you and Chloe this past year. I can get a little more protein and fruit in you this way.
Your favorite snack is popcorn with garlic and sprinkles.
You still love to put stuff in your mouth that is not food. We talk often about how we only put food in our mouth so we don't choke or digest something that is dangerous for our bodies. Taste testing things is still a struggle, specifically chalk and bath bombs.

You're still sucking your fingers. You told us you were going to stop when you turned 5. Spoiler alert: that was a lie! You used to suck fingers on both hands, but now you only suck the fingers on your right hand.

You love your siblings!
You and Chloe love to play together...most of the time. You love to do whatever Chloe is doing and often say "it's not fair that Chloe ____" when Chloe gets to do something that you don't get to do.
You and Haddon have a fun relationship too. You are rough with him, but he loves it!

You are a great sister!

You have a tight group of friends.
Once you've decided someone is your friend, you are very loyal to them!
Joey might be Chloe's age, but it is so fun to watch yall play together. He used to sit back and just watch your craziness, but now yall play together and we often crack up watching yall play together.

You and Amara don't get to see each other often, but yall have so much fun when you are together.
Sophia and Aya: Your 2 favorite school friends

You graduated speech this year!

You are in year 2 of pre-k at Mangum. You don't always love going to school, but you usually have positive things to say about your day. You're much more comfortable with going now and I think you really like Mrs. Heath as your teacher!

You seem to like to play outside in extreme conditions:
Extremely cold on the beach: don't want to come in.
Extremely rainy: you want a rain jacket and boots on to jump in puddles.
Extremely cold and snowing: you're asking for your snow clothes to go out before 8am.
Beautiful sunny day: you just want to sit inside and watch TV.
This is a little exaggerated (haha), but there is some truth here!
You are our first to want to go in and our hardest to convince to come out.

You loved swimming this summer!

You still love babies and animals. If we would get you a cat, you would be ecstatic. We've had lots of conversations, full of tears, about why you can't have your own cat. If you see a cat, you immediately want to go pet it and call it yours.

For now, Truett will have to do!

You got to be a flower girl in Allyson's wedding and loved it!
I'm pretty sure Megan had to re-do your hair 3 times before the ceremony because you were dancing around so much that day!

You finished ballet and tap last season with your recital, which you did great in.
By the end of dance season it was a struggle to get you to dance class each week. So we took a break this season from it. You're slowly talking about wanting to do it again, so we'll see in the fall if that stays true.
Even not dancing, you still love to put on a dance show for us often!

You are you're own unique person when it comes to your style and clothes.
You still love PJs!
Your phase of hating wiggly clothes came abruptly to an end this winter.
You grew 4 inches this past year and I think most of that has been in the past few months.
Over Christmas, I switched out all of your clothes because you were complaining about everything being too tight now.
But, now the battle is not liking stuff that is too tight, which is the complete opposite of how you wanted your clothes just 3 months ago.
Getting dressed each day can be quite the battle for us!
You still have to have socks on though!

We have to watch you closely when it comes to make up because you think it is hilarious to put it on like this.

You still love a good dress up costume, but usually want it over your clothes because you also don't like things that are itchy.

You still like watching "baby" on the phone, which is just YouTube Kids.
We have to be really intentional with limiting your screen time because you would watch it all day if we let you.

You are a silly little thing that makes us smile often!

You cut your hair one morning (again)
Thankfully it just looks like you gave yourself bangs.
Again, with the conversation about using things for what they are supposed to be used for.
We only use scissors to cut paper.

You keep us on our toes, Little Bit! If it gets quiet with you around, we better come looking for you sooner rather than later! You can quickly get into things without us ever knowing, but most of the time you tell on yourself!

I think I said it well on social media on your actual birthday:
Our Kinsley girl is 5! Five seems like such a turning point to big girl status. Surely we aren’t already here with our Little Bit. Happy birthday to our sweet and feisty girl! Things I want to always remember about you at this age: you’d still live in pjs if you could. From sandals to jellies to tennis shoes to boots, you must have socks on. You would watch TV all day everyday if we let you. You still love to snack. Popcorn with garlic and sprinkles is your favorite. You slept downstairs in our guest room by yourself for almost a year, but about a week ago randomly decided you wanted to go back to your bed upstairs. When your mind is set on something, there is no changing it. You still suck your fingers, but say you’re going to stop now that you’re 5. You give the best hugs and are the best snuggler. You are loyal (almost to a fault) to your friends. You didn’t want to keep doing dance, but you love to put on a dance show for us at home. You love to flip on the monkey bars and your gymnastics bar…and anywhere you have space to run and flip. You brighten our day and are so loved, sweet girl!
Goodness, we love you!
