For the past few years, we have done something "big" aka super fun to ring in the new year!
We wanted to do something fun this year too, but just thinking about traveling back to Durham...or anywhere for that matter...was exhausting.
The week of Christmas we tore up the highway.
Dec 22-both drove to Durham
Dec 24-drove to Morganton (left one car in Durham)
Dec 25-drove to Grandma's
Dec 26-Stephen came back to Morganton, I went to Durham with Allyson
Dec 28-I drove back to Morganton
We spent about 24 hours (if that) in each place. It was so nice to see family and still get to do a lot of our regular Christmas traditions, only missing a few, but getting in the car to go somewhere for New Year's just wasn't going to happen.
But, we still wanted to do something. We aren't completely lame yet...(okay, maybe I am, but Stephen isn't and that counts, right?!)
So he had the great idea to get a hotel room here in Morganton and have a staycation.
We got a room with a king size bed (why do hotel kings seem so much bigger and better than ours?) and a Jacuzzi tub!
We checked in, watched some football (hello, cable!), took a nap, went to dinner, took a bubble bath, watched more football, read, watched Rockin New Year's Eve in NYC, and barely made it to midnight to ring in the new year, then we slept until 11am (thank you noon check out!).
It was great! Low key, quality time with my boo...my favorite kind of night!
