SWAGRRR Day

GRRR is our motto at Carrington and our acronym for our four main expectations for students.

G-Golden Rule
R-Respectful
R-Responsible
R-Ready

If you follow those four general expectations, you're good to go! And, since we're the cougars, the cougar roar (GRRR) fits perfectly!

Our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) committee works hard to reward positive behavior. We had a cougar store that would open each Friday. Students who showed positive behavior throughout the week earned a cougar paw and could redeem it at the cougar store for various prizes. Well, due to some crazy new DPS policies and guidelines, we had to shut down the cougar store because our prizes didn't meet these new protocols. AKA-we can't reward students with food.

So, our PBIS committee worked hard with a very limited budget to find ways to still reward positive behavior. What came out of this plan was a super impressive field day for the entire school!

Any student who had not earned ISS or OSS for the month of May got to participate. Other than an hour and a half in electives, students spent the day outside. Half of their time was spent rotating through various competitions (jousting, wrecking ball inflatable, obstacle courses, water balloon launch, and dodge ball) and the other half was spent at a carnival with A LOT of fun games to play and prizes to win!

The kids LOVED it and the teachers even had a great time! Other than a few glitches here and there with a backed up lunch line when they ran out of food and some chaotic down time with the competitions (unstructured down time with 7th graders gets chaotic FAST), the day went really well! 

 I came in like a wrecking ball!

 My awesome husband came and volunteered all day for us! He rocked out the dodge ball station!
