Three years old! It's so hard to believe. It feels like just yesterday I was rocking you to sleep and here you are in a big girl bed now, but at the same time it feels like you've always been here and I'm sad that I can't remember every detail of your sweet little pudgy, wobbly days as a baby.
You have grown so much and so quickly! At the beginning of this year you were in 24 months and 2T clothes. You are now in 5T clothes and size 8 or 9 shoes depending on the style.
You are very independent and are great at playing by yourself. Your imagination easily keeps you entertained. If you're outside, you always have a stick in your hand. You wave it around like a pointer as you walk around and talk in your pretend world. If you aren't having a conversation with yourself, you're singing. You still love to be outside unless you're begging to watch a screen and I'm telling you no. Then, you tell me the sun is too bright for you. Once you get out there though, you get in your own world and have a blast!
We switched you to a big girl bed in January and you love it! I introduced your Hatch clock a few days before so you could get used to the lights and you've done great with staying in your bed until your light turns green.
Switching to a big girl bed seemed to help night time potty training to click. We weren't trying to train you or push it, but you started waking up in the middle of the night to go potty. You call out for me to come get you and take you potty. You easily get back in your bed, but don't always fall back asleep easily. We're working on that. You've had some early mornings, but will just lay and talk/play in your bed until your light turns green. As soon as it's green, you come running to our room to watch videos.
You also dropped your nap a few months ago. You were still napping great, but started taking hours to fall asleep at night, sometimes not going to sleep until after 9 and still waking up way before the sun! So we dropped the nap and you are easily asleep by 7 every night again! Some days if we've had a few super early mornings in a row or several nights of you laying awake for a while after going potty, we'll still make you take a nap. You cry about it, but say "otay" and get in your bed and are usually asleep in no time. You're so tired on these days that these random naps don't seem to affect bed time, which is nice.
In place of nap, you've started doing quiet time in your room. I turn some music on for you and set your timer. You play with your babies and blocks and look at books. I try to get you to stay in there for at least an hour each day. Some days you stay the whole hour and other days you say you're done early. When that happens, I'll adjust your timer and still make you stay until your timer is done. Your room is usually trashed after quiet time and dad thinks this is both hilarious and cute. Most of the time you're good about helping me clean it up.
You've gotten into watching movies. Mema, Poppy, and Allyson gave you several dress up dresses for Christmas. One of those was an Elsa dress and you fell in love with Frozen. You sing "Let it Go" at the top of your lungs! One night at Mema and Poppy's Beauty and the Beast (the remake) was on TV. It sucked you in and since then you've watched it almost everyday after quiet time. Allyson got you a Belle dress for your birthday and you love to wear it.
You are so smart. Your vocabulary and how quickly you pick things up still amazes us. You still get frustrated really easily if we don't understand what you're saying. Usually I can intervene and get you to tell me about whatever you're trying to say and I can use context clues to figure it out. If you're tired though, this always leads to a meltdown. It's rare we can't understand you, but every once in a while we have to work hard to figure out what you're talking about.
You are the sweetest little encourager. You will often say, "You a good mommy!" Or if I'm doing something for you, you'll say, "Good job mommy! You doing great!"
You do well with Kinsley and are the best at getting her to laugh. You will randomly stop what you're doing to come up and hug her. Y'all are starting to play together a little bit. It's sweet to watch, but it's also beginning the sibling rivalry days. Kinsley is feisty and strong. You're usually sweet with her, but the sweetness isn't always returned, especially if you have something she wants.
You loved the holidays and were the sweetest at Christmas. You loved opening your presents, but you were so sweet about waiting for other people to open theirs and always offered to help. You get so excited about other people's birthday and loved Valentine's Day! You love riding the tractor when we go to Grandma and Pa's!
You're still sensitive both with your feelings and your senses. Kinsley has a very high pitch squeal that sends you over the edge. It makes you run away and cry every time. Kinsley thinks it's funny so she does it over and over again. It makes for interesting dinners because Kinsley's favorite time to do this is in her high chair. Your heart is still easily broken, especially when you have to be corrected or punished. Just knowing you're getting a spanking makes you melt into a puddle of tears, especially if it's daddy.
One of your favorite things is breakfast dates. Your favorite spot is The Silver Spoon and you love when you get to have a breakfast date with someone one on one.
You've transitioned to life in Durham really well. You still miss your friends, but we try to Facetime them regularly. You've made some new friends and it's so sweet watching you play with them.
You go with the flow and are happy doing whatever. You've still been home with me through quarantine. You've definitely missed school and we're hoping to get you back in soon, but I have loved spending the past year with you. It's been such an unexpected blessing.
It's so fun being your momma and watching you grow. You could slow down just a little. ;)
