Summer Weekend Fun

Other than the really exciting fact that school ended, June hasn't had much going for it. But, we didn't let the month end without a bang.

This past weekend we got to celebrate one of our really good friends getting married and took a spontaneous trip to the zoo!

The wedding was Sunday, but we had to be there Saturday for the rehearsal dinner. We slept in, packed up, and left for Greensboro.
We stopped in Hickory for gas and in the time Stephen pumped the gas and ran in to get some drinks our battery died...We wandered around the gas station asking for jumper cables and spent the next 30 minutes getting jumped and buying a new battery...not exactly the plan, but such is life!
We had a great evening at the rehearsal dinner, got to hang out with some of our favorite people, and had a blast partying the night away at the wedding!

Getting to hang out with these awesome people was an added bonus!

The wedding rate for the rooms was so great we planned to spend the night again Sunday after the wedding and take our time going back Monday. Monday was a beautiful day and since we were somewhat close, we decided to head to the zoo for the day. We've been wanting to go for a date, but never made it a priority. Neither of us have been since we went on a field trip with day camp as counselors...we both agreed it's much more fun when you aren't trying to keep up with 25 elementary kids!

The elephants and giraffes are my favorite and I was really looking forward to getting to feed the giraffes. However, the feeding deck closes at 2 and we got to the giraffes at 2:20. :( We later figured out we should have started on the Africa side and worked our way toward the North America side. Lesson learned. They were still really cool to look at and watch!

This was the only glimpse of the polar bears we got. I wish we could have seen them playing more!

The gorillas were active and super fun to watch. This guy sat right at the glass and people watched.
It was a great day! Here's a short video of some of the animals in action.
