MoTown

We've learned Morganton is affectionely called Motown.

So, here we are. One week in...man! What a whirlwind of a week!

We left Durham at 6am Monday morning. We had to be present in person to set up our power account. Our goal was to avoid being in a hot house with no power so we waited until first thing Monday morning to head this way.

We got the power turned on and immediately jumped into unpacking. Stephen's mom came with us for the week and was a huge help! As the day progressed, we noticed the house didn't seem to be cooling. We thought maybe that was normal since the power and air had been off for so long. We went to lunch and I thought surely getting out of the house for a while would help us notice a change in temperature. When we walked back in, it was hotter than when we had left. Through several conversations with our landlord, resetting the unit, and getting a repairman out, we learned the unit was bad and needed to be replaced. So much for avoiding working in a hot house. Thankfully the power was on so we could run fans, but we didn't get the new unit until Wednesday evening.

After unloading on Monday, Stephen headed straight to work. VBS was last week (talk about diving in head first) so he was tied up at church for most of the week. So, when he was home, we put him to work on some of the heavy duty tasks. Despite the heat, we all fell into bed each night and crashed!

We went hard core all day Monday and Tuesday unpacking and organizing. We were hot and sweaty and sore and so tired, but we got it done! Then Wednesday we took all of my stuff over to the school and got unpacked there. Thursday Cecelia spent the day getting some more odds and ends done at the house and I went back over to school to finish setting up my classroom.

We said goodbye to Cecelia Friday afternoon, ran some errands, and then welcomed Allyson in for the weekend. We spent the day at Ikea Saturday racking up on some more items for the house. Such a fun day!  ...although my bank account wouldn't say so. :P

Saturday night we worked until 1am putting things together and getting pictures hung. Allyson is the best at helping me make those decisions and pushing me to be motivated to get those last odds and ends done.

Sunday was church, hanging a few more things, saying goodbye to Allyson, then an evening at the lake for baptisms. When we got home from the lake, we put a movie in from Redbox that we were both excited to see. Unfortunately, though not surprising, we both slept through it.

It feels like the beach was forever ago! It's hard to believe we've only been here a week. Initially, my mind had not thought past this past weekend. Now that we're past that, the reality that this is real is slowly setting in. We're loving it here so far and have been welcomed so well by the church. I've got a few more days before work days officially begin and am trying to get the house finalized in that time. Pics and post about our new home coming soon!
