2014: A Year in Review

Last year I really focused on my health. I was excited about the running progress I made and wanted to make sure I continued that. I also added in some other "fun" goals. I don't feel like I did as good of a job accomplishing my goals this year, but am happy with the continued health progress I made. In 2015 I'll focus on health and fun!

Reread Classics
To Kill a Mockingbird-Still my favorite!
The Help-SO GOOD! I read this one last because it was so long and I had recently watched the movie. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. This is the only time I can remember using a movie to picture a book, even after having read it before.
The Outsiders-Easy read. Not as good as I remember. I remembered small parts being a bigger part of the plot than they actually were.
Night-Couldn't get past the intro.
Lord of the Flies-I tried so hard, but could not get into it.
Boy in the Striped Pajamas-Easy, good read
Of Mice and Men-Read this in one day...forgot the ending!
The Scarlet Letter-Never got to it this year

Photo Class-I did this with Steph! It was a lot of fun!

Paint Class-Next year!

30 Day Challenges- I wanted to do six 30 day challenges, one every other month. I got "three" of them done.
30 Day Ab Challenge
15 Day Arm Challenge
15 Day Leg Challenge
30 Day Plank Challenge

Runners Diet-Next Year! I feel like to continue to see running improvement, I'm going to have to be more intentional about my diet. I didn't focus on my diet at all this year other than limiting fast food.

Run 3 Races-I ran 4!
Although I saw a lot of improvement in my running, my overall running decreased from last year.
Final run count for the year:
0 times per week 7 times
1 time per week 8 times
2 times per week 9 times
3 times per week 23 times
4 times per week 5 times
 Running of the Bulls 8K
 Chick-Fil-A 5K
Electric Run 5K
Gigi's Cupcake 5K

Save Money-Overall, we did well with this. This year, we set money aside at the beginning of each month. A genius idea, right? Ha! Before, I would just put what was left each month in savings. We're learning to be more intentional. Our move this year will help a lot with that this coming year.

Read Spiritual Books
Love and Respect-Good
When I Don't Desire God-Wise, not offensive
Knowing God- I almost finished this one (18 out of 22 chapters). Full of good reminders.
Jesus Continued-Learned a lot about the Holy Spirit. Easy and understandable.

Establish Care with Medical Doctor-Stephen and I both did this, finally!

Go to the Eye Doctor-Check! Got a clean bill of health!

Go to the Oral Surgeon-Check! 2015 will include getting my last two wisdom teeth out.

Skip Fast Food One Week per Month-This was tough! I worked hard to still only eat fast food once per week and completely skip it one week each month.
Final count for the year:
0 times per week 16 times
1 time per week 29 times
2 times per week 7 times
3 or more times per week 0 times!!

Go Camping-Next year, hopefully!

Take a Vacation-Mexico! Best thing all year!

Social Media Free Weekend Once a Month-I didn't do this once a month, but I did take the month of December off of social media to memorize scripture. It was tough, but rewarding. I learned to focus on God's Word when I would instinctly grab for Facebook or Instagram.

Memorize Scripture-I didn't get serious about this until December, but hope this habit will continue through 2015. I was able to memorize 4 verses in December. Not quite as much as I had hoped for 2014, but you have to start somewhere, right?

Read for Fun-A quick list and review of books I read this year in addition to the ones above:
The Longest Ride-Typical Nicholas Sparks
The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven-This was more of dad's perspective than the son, but still interesting.
Divergent-Surprisingly disappointed. I think my expectations were too high for this.
Insurgent-This was my favorite of the three
Allegiant-Just finished this to know what happened
The Fault in our Stars-Good! Sad.
First Sight-Predictable. Cheesy. Redundant.
Home Again-Perfect beach read!
The Moon and More-Boring. Slow.
One Day-Tried to read this in Mexico...it was too complicated to read and people watch. ;)
The Selection-Good! Leaves you hanging.
The Elite-Really good! (the second book in a trilogy always seems to be my favorite) I read this in 2 days.
The One-Surprisingly good. I waited a long time to get it from the library so I wasn't super interested at first. I still read it in 2 days and couldn't put it down.
I'm Not Her-Good...I wanted to know more
Someone Like You-Decent. Slow at first.
How to Save a Life- Good, but easy to put down and forget about
Leaving Time-Really good! Stayed up until 2:30am reading it...wasn't what I expected, but still worth the read.

  1. Shocked you did not like Divergent. Granted, when I read it I knew nothing about it and had zero expectations, but I thought it was SO FRIGGIN' GOOD.
