Haddon James: Three Years Old

Haddon, you are 3!
You are 35 pounds. (85th %tile)
You are 3 feet 2 inches. (73rd %tile)
You are comfortably in 3T clothes.
You wear a size 8 toddler shoe.
We put you in size 6 diapers during the day. We were using size 7 at night, but just switched you to the Goodnites pull ups because the others were staring to leak consistently.
We've started talking about using the potty and just need to get a date on the calendar to crack down and do it. You loved peeing outside this summer at the beach and could control things for that so I think it will be an easy switch for you despite you telling me you are "not growed up yet."

Eating
Your favorite thing to do is go to McDonald's with Mema and Poppy. You love a cheeseburger, fries, apples, and a cookie. Clearly Mema also let's you get a slushy every time.
Spaghetti. pizza, breakfast casserole, pancakes, oranges, popsicles, yogurt, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, turkey, and applesauce are your other favorites!
You primarily sit at the table with us now, but will eat in the high chair for movie nights. We're keeping the high chair for family things for now even though you are done with it.

Sleeping
Our crib era officially came to an end with you over the summer. You started climbing out of the crib so we went ahead and switched you. You have loved it and done really well. We did hit a season where you thought it was a game to get out of your bed and run around the house after we left your room. One day during nap time, you had done this several times and were cracking up about it. I decided to stand in the girls' door and jump out and scare you the next time thinking you would laugh about that. It terrified you! While I did not intentionally mean to scare you half to death, it worked! And for the most part you stay in your bed now!
You are still taking one nap a day. You could probably easily drop that, but mommy isn't ready to give up that quiet time just yet. Because of that, bedtime has gotten later. Once we lay you down, you like to sit in your bed and play trucks and tractors. When you get tired, you line all of your toys up neatly, pull your blankets up and go to sleep.

You decided you were scared of the dark so we have to leave the door open and the bathroom light on until you fall asleep. If I turn the lights off before I have the bathroom light on, you would tell me "turn the dark off!"

You often sleep with your hands behind your head like this.

Big Boy Hair Cut
We went with an "official" big boy hair cut this summer and you loved your "pike-y" hair.

Sickness
You got some kind of virus where you ran a high fever and had a nasty cough. You were diagnosed with croup and given a steriod antibiotic. The next day you cried for three hours straight about your ear hurting. Of course it was Sunday so we had to go to urgent care. Your ears looked ok, but she gave you meds just in case. You bounced back quickly and loved showing off for the nurses. I told them "I promise he's been crying all day" because I was sure they wouldn't believe me.

You also got pink eye. Wrestling you to get drops in your eyes took me and daddy both!

Childcare

You spend most of your days with Mema still, but you did start going to Aldersgate 3 half days a week. You really love Ms. Lindsey, but Mema's house is still your favorite!

Dress Up
You loved dressing up this summer!

Outside
You love to be outside and are good at entertaining yourself. You love playing with Kinsley and the neighbors too.

Your scooter and balance bike skills are impressive. Combine them with your lack of fear and sometimes mommy has to close her eyes! Thankfully you finally willingly wear your helmet.

You also had no fear in the pool this summer. If I could have closed my eyes there, I would have. You were a little fish!

The lifeguards loved you! Especially when you got your own whistle and started yelling "no running" at people!

Swinging and the sand table are two more things that you love. I love going in the kitchen, looking out the window, and watching you play at the sand table by yourself.
You did manage to get stung multiple times this summer. The first time I didn't really realize what happened until I saw the marks because you didn't cry like it was a sting. The second time you managed to step on a yellowjacket nest. You and I both got stung in that process. You had over 10 stings on you by the time it was all said and done. Thankfully no allergic reaction past the stings itching for days afterward.
Always Daddy's little helper!

Beach
The beach was so fun with you too!

You got to stay up late and go crab hunting twice! One of those times was with just me and daddy. You were a wild man running around the beach in the dark, but it was so fun!

Family
It's so fun watching you with your cousins. Sometimes the hugs are a little aggressive, but yall are super cute playing together.

Right before you turned 3, "your baby" was born and you have LOVED being a big cousin to Easton. You loved snuggling with Allyson's belly when she was pregnant and you were very clear that Easton is "your baby!"

Speaking of family, we're all pretty crazy about you!

Poppy and a tractor...two of your favorite things! You tell people that your Poppy is silly and likes to joke you.

Watching your little friendships grow too is so fun!

Sayings
Some of my favorite Haddon sayings from the past 6 months:
"Scentsy" (how he says Kinsley)
"Say it louder" (when you couldn't hear something we said)
They're beeping! (watching baby chicks in their pen)
"That an idea or no?"
I often tell you that's not a good idea. You started asking me "that an idea?" meaning is that a good idea.
"In to morning" (instead of tomorrow)
"I plinky promise"...as he holds out his index finger...
Goodness, buddy! We couldn't love you more if we tried! You keep us laughing and saying "that boy" non stop and we wouldn't trade you for the world!
